"CANDIDATES DON’T RESPOND TO DIRECT MAIL!"
By: Ken Levinson – President
Some of our clients try recruiting candidates by direct mail, instead of by making personal contact. By this, we mean that instead of calling a candidate, they send a letter and brochure asking that the candidate respond if they are interested. This in our opinion is very ineffective. If you study direct mail, you’ll find a 1% response to a quality mailing piece is considered a good response, and that a 2-3% response is considered outstanding. Therefore, this method of recruitment can be effective when doing mailing list contacts with hundreds or thousands of possible candidates. However, it is a very ineffective method for doing 1 on 1 personalized recruiting. It is far more effective to contact a candidate personally, and then send information if there’s a mutual interest.
